Tteokbokki | Spicy Rice Cakes 🇰🇷

Tteokbokki has to be one of my favourite Korean street food snacks. It’s chewy, spicy, sweet and incredibly satisfying.

The best part about it, is that you can EASILY make it at home to enjoy while watching your favourite K-dramas! 👀😂

  • 500g rice cakes

  • 700ml anchovy stock or chicken stock

  • 200g fish cakes

Tteokbokki Sauce

  • 2 tbsp gochujang aka Korean chilli paste

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1.5 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1/2 tsp Korean chilli powder (optional)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (optional)

Toppings

  • Sesame seeds

  • Green onion - thinly sliced

  • 3-4 boiled egg (optional)

Method
  1. Soak rice cake for 15-30 minutes in warm water.

  2. While rice cakes are soaking, in a medium pan in high heat, combine stock and tteokbokki sauce and bring to boil

  3. Drain the rice cake and add to the sauce along with the fish cakes. ✨ Make sure to stir frequently so the rice cake doesn’t stick to pan ✨

  4. When the sauce has thickened, toss in your boiled egg and the green onion.

  5. Garnish with sesame seeds, serve fresh and enjoy! 🤤
